one man’s refugee
September 7, 2005 – 4:08 pmGeorge Bush opposes using the word “refugees” to describe the victims of hurricane Katrina, presumably because they are Americans, still living in their own country.
Jesse Jackson opposes calling them “refugees” because he claims the term is racist and has criminal connotations (huh?).
News service Reuters has decided to continue referring to them as “refugees,” presumably to spite Dubya and prove that nobody listens to Jesse Jackson.
The AP is still using the word also.

Why don’t they just call them expatriates?

maybe they both should wake up and realize that none of them crossed international borders and therefore are not properly classified as such.
