friday night at mel’s

August 29, 2004 – 7:59 pm

On Friday night I stopped off at Mel’s Starlit Diner, the only burger joint in Muncie with any real class. Apparently a bunch of folks with vintage cars like to turn it into an impromptu car show, complete with a DJ and a contest to win a “Hemi-powered Red Rider (see last picture in this post). I drove past, thinking, darn, I never have my digital camera when I see cool stuff like this…wait! I do have my digital camera! Whereupon I grabbed the handbreak, executed a screeching 180 turnabout, parked it in the shade and took some pictures. (It happened somewhat like that. Fact is, there wasn’t any shade.)

You sure are looking good.
And the DJ began to play “Hey there, Little Red Riding Hood.”
Vroom.
Nice to see the Italians represented.
Obviously not much shade left to park in.
Mel’s parking lot.
Vroom, vroom.
Nice Bel Air. The interior was restored to mint.
This car is staring daggers at the Ferrari, which refuses to meet her gaze.
I was looking for a Chevelle. This one had no markings on it, but it looks kinda like a Chevelle to my untrained eye.
Va-va-vroom.
The yellow “Chevelle” shows some muscle.
You sure are looking small.
Maybe this was the “Little Red Riding Hood” the DJ honored, but I like to think it was the hot little number in the first photo.
